Yes, they are still being made and Toshiba is the latest laptop manufacturer to launch a new range of tablet PCs. The two models in the new Portégé M700 series are Toshiba’s fourth take on the tablet concept and both are based on Intel Centrino vPro technology, with Core 2 Duo T7250 processors (based on the Merom platform, rather than the new 45nm Penryn).

The Toshiba production line rumbles on, this time serving up the new 13.3in Portégé M800. Weighing in at just under 2kg it gets a 'white pearl' finish with silver trimmings and added white LEDs.

Inside lies a 2GHz Core 2 Duo T5750, 1GB RAM, 250GB hard drive, DVD burner and three USB ports. The display is a WXGA 1280x800 panel with on-board Intel GMA X3100 graphics and it runs Vista Home Premium.

It's slated to land in Europe sometime between July and September but there's no details yet on pricing.

The current vogue for solid state hard drives hasn't gone unnoticed by Toshiba. It's just slapped a 128GB SSD into a new version of its ultra-portable Portégé R500, the R500-12Q.

Besides the solid state boost, it gets a 1.33GHz ultra-low voltage Intel Core 2 Duo U7700 processor and 2GB of memory.
