Good news everyone! Nearly two months after its long awaited announcement Nokia's touchscreen 5800 XpressMusic is finally here! Well, when we say "here", technically we mean "Russia, Spain, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Finland", but, hey, at least it's somewhere.
No doubt an eBay importer is hastilly buying up stock for those willing to shell out an arm and a leg to get one SIM-free before Christmas. For the rest of us, though, it's a waiting game until it gets launched in the UK - possibly on Orange .
We've spoken to Nokia this afternoon who are "getting back" to us on a UK release date - but we wouldn't hold our breath on any advance on the "early 2009" response we got last time due to those UK networks and their infernal"optimisation" and product testing. Still - a blogger can dream...

Despite some hopes that the touchscreen BlackBerry Storm 9500 might be arriving in stores tomorrow, Vodafone has confirmed next Friday 14th November as the official on sale date, from free on £35 two-year contract with unlimited Internet and email.
Intriguingly, the website is saying that pre-orders will be delivered by 18th November but having spoken to Vodafone this afternoon we've been assured that phones will be going out to everyone who pre-ordered on the 14th - although "such is the demand" that it could take up to four days to reach them. Thankfully there are ways to snare one earlier, so read on.
As if you didn't have enough to choose from with the iPhone 3G, Xperia X1, T-Mobile G1 and BlackBerry Storm all lining up in stores, now HTC's Touch HD has joined the fray. It's just found its way into stock at devicewire.com for a cool £498.19 sim-free.
If that's a tad beyond your budget then unlocked HDs will also be available with contracts on Orange and O2 courtesy of mobiles.co.uk from Friday. It's selling it for free on £35+ 18 month tariffs on either network.
Looking like a Nintendo DS gone wrong, Fujitsu has unveiled the Lifebook N7010 - a Blu-Ray equipped laptop with an innovative extra touchscreen above the keyboard.
Intriguingly, the 4in "Touch Zone" screen isn't of the Windows Vista SideShow variety but a fully fledged display in its own right. By default it's a touch controlled app launcher but it can also be roped in for full screen video (well, all four inches of it), photo slide shows or media controls. Slashgear also reports that apps can be "dragged down" to the mini display - making it more like a second monitor.
Elsewhere it's the usual media powerhouse / desktop replacement mix with a 16in screen, 2.26GHz Intel Core2 Duo P8400, a 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3470 GPU and Blu-Ray drive.
It launches in the US on Tuesday 11th November for $1500 - but there's no word a UK release. Click through for the press release.
Today's the day to get your paws on the T-Mobile G1. In fact you may already be reading this on your shiny new touchscreen Android handset because doors opened at 7am at T-Mobile stores in eager anticipation of hoards of Google Phone seekers.
It goes on sale on T-Mob's standard contracts from £30 or for free on £40+ tariffs with free web'n'walk worth £7.50 thrown in. More after the jump.
In a launch ranking somewhere below the iPhone and somewhere above the usual pay-as-you-go dross, LG's given the KP500 its official UK announcement.
Dubbed the 'Cookie' it's, "an affordable touchscreen phone", for those who don't feel like shelling out for an iPhone/Bold/5800/Touch Diamond. At £159 with £10 credit on O2 PAYG, it won't break the bank but it still manages a 3in touchscreen, 3mp camera, FM radio and all the usual gubbins. Don't go looking for 3G, Wi-Fi or GPS, though, because they're not there. More details and the press release after the cut.
With just 24 hours to go till the T-Mobile G1 goes on sale in the US, Google has announced that Android is now officially Open Source.
And while that might prompt some to whip out the soldering iron to start crafting their own Google Phone, for others it will still be quicker to buy a G1 on launch day. As we reported earlier, T-Mobile has said there's been big demand for the handset, with five times the usual amount of interest for other major handset launches on their website.
We've already reported that Motorola is looking to launch a social networking centric Android phone, but now BuinessWeek believes it has laid its hands on some more details. According to its sources, the Moto Android phone will have a slide-out keyboard, like the T-Mobile G1, but will compete with the iPhone more aggressively with a larger screen and a 'higher end' finish. Read on for the deets.
Back in June, Asus was showing off a twin screened laptop concept (think giant Nintendo DS) at Computex in Taiwan, with two touchscreens in place of the usual one screen plus keyboard combo. Over the weekend the rumour mill's been spinning, with suggestions from panel makers that a real product could launch some time in the first three months of 2009.
Digitimes reports that the mould breaking laptops would take advantage of Vista's replacement, Windows 7, with possible screen sizes of 11.6in or 12.1in, although final specs are still to be finalised.
While there's no reason to doubt the report, some have pointed out that Windows 7 isn't scheduled for release until the following year, while others have suggested that a purely touchscreen laptop might not be the ideal machine for the touch typers out there. Luckily that's not a problem for us t w o f i n g e r s t a b b e r s . . .
Nokia's been a little modest in comparing the new 5800 XpressMusic to its closest rival the Apple iPhone 3G - and now we know why. News from India is that Nokia is prepping an even higher-end touchscreen to sit in its N-Series range and really take the fight to Apple. Read on.
