Is there be any more demanded an iPhone feature than the simple, honest-to-goodness ability to copy and paste? We suspect not.

So, is Apple going to get around to sorting it out any time soon? Alas, we again suspect not. While the iPhone world waits for an OS-level copy and paste function, an outfit called Proximi is parading the same trick in its upcoming application, MagicPad.

Don’t get too excited here because, as you’re probably aware, applications running on the iPhone are sandboxed – meaning a feature in one cannot be used in another. So, yes, MagicPad is a notepad application with a copy and paste feature. But that copy-and-paste feature can be used only in MagicPad. And while the developer tries hard in this demo video to convince viewers that MagicPad will be great, it really looks like just another notepad application. With a copy and paste function. So, it took a mere five days for the iPhone 3G to be jailbroken and now the folks at iPhone Dev have released an iPhone 3G-friendly version of their 'Pwnage' software. The good news is it will jailbreak both iPhone 3G and 1st Gen iPhones running the new 2.0 firmware, allowing the installation of third party software not available via the iTunes App Store – and unlock 1st gen handsets for use with any SIM.

The bad news is it won't yet unlock iPhone 3Gs, so you're stuck with O2 for the time being. Given that all current 3G handsets are tethered to an O2 contract for 18 months anyway, that's not such a big issue, but it is a pain if you like to use SIM cards for local networks when you're abroad.
