Motorola's been pushing the movie playing experience on mobiles such as the Z10 lately. Now it's taken the next natural step and offered movie downloads via its hellomoto.com website.

The full length films aren't delivered over the air but rather downloaded via PC to be transferred to a phone. It's a simple drag and drop process but the handset is required to go online and download a license key before the file will play.

Windows Mobile, Palm OS and Symbian smartphone users have been able to watch streaming video on their handhelds from a SlingBox for some time, but the BlackBerry has so far been denied. No more -- Sling Media will announce a BlackBerry version of its SlingPlayer Mobile application next week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

There's no word on which BlackBerry models will be supported yet, but the application will be demonstrated using the Wi-Fi-enabled Pearl 8120 . SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry will be available later this year for £19.99 and a 30-day demo will be available.

A new report by Juniper Research suggests that many mobile device users aren’t just accessing contact information on their handsets. Juniper says that global sales of mobile adult services will reach $3.5bn (£1.25bn) by 2010, with western Europe accounting for largest sales – sales here are expected to rise from £388 million in 2007 to £750 million by 2012. Juniper says that the market is being driven by the growth of streamed video and video chat, plus a sharp rise in the adoption of 3G services. The most popular genre amongst consumers is graphic amateur content, adds Juniper.

If you fancy being able to watch your home DVD player or Sky+ box on your laptop, wherever you are, then treat yourself to a Slingbox. The original model costs around £100 at the moment, but hurry — it’s been superseded by the new Slingbox Pro and won’t be around for long.

The BBC has announced that not only will it be teaming up with Adobe to offer a Flash-based version of its iPlayer catch-up TV service, but that the service will also be available free via The Cloud Wi-Fi hotspots.

The Beeb has been criticised for using Windows Media rather than an open source solution for its recently launched iPlayer service, not least because it means that programmes are only available to Windows users. The adoption of Adobe Flash for streaming video means that both Mac and Linux users will now be able to use iPlayer too. The Flash-based version of iPlayer should be available by the end of the year.

DivX has announced a mobile phone player for video compressed with the DivX codec. A beta of the DivX Mobile Player is now available for download from the DivX site, along with a selection of free video downloads (free registration required) to test it with. The catch is that only two mobile phones are Mobile DivX-certified at the moment – the Samsung SGH-F500 and SGH F508 -- but the player is also available for Windows Mobile and Symbian OS smartphones.
