Obsessive gamers’ site Kotaku has posted a video interview with Sega’s American president, Simon Jeffery, in which he declares Apple’s iPhone to be as "powerful as the Dreamcast console". For the uninitiated, the Dreamcast was Sega's fine home games console before tranforming itself into a software-only outfit.

As well, albeit with tongue definitely in cheek, Jeffery acknowledged that for Sega, the iPhone was an alternative to developing a Dreamcast 2. This kind of talk will doubtless prompt endless calls for an iPhone port of Shenmue, and Jeffery did little to dissuade viewers by mentioning that Sega’s vast back catalogue of games puts the company in a good position to become a leading iPhone games developer.

What’s the best way to waste time with a state-of-the-art techno gadget like the iPhone? Why, use it to play a three-decades-old video game, of course.

As the above fuzzy little snapshot shows, these three iPhones are playing a version of the 1972 bat-and-ball game, Pong. Now, it’s a rubbish game by modern standards but what these chaps have done is really rather impressive.

According to Technabob, this picture and accompanying YouTube video (linked to over at Technabob) is a proof-of-concept demonstration showing how iPhones can be made to interact. The video is worth watching because the photo doesn’t give any clue as to the really clever part, on which more after the jump.

On the off-chance you’re one of the few people that could give a hoot, Nokia has declared that it will after all allow those who purchase N-Gage games to transfer the licenses when they change handsets. In other words, the games will no longer be tied to the first handset onto which they are installed.

US publication PCWorld reports Nokia’s Scandinavian communications manager, Oskar Södergren, as saying: “Internally there have been some mixed messages in this matter as well. We have been working on a way for this to work since the relaunch, but it is taking some time for everything to fall into place.”
