Not a good day for China on the track but a decent showing all-round in the exhibition hall with this. Lenovo's pulled its Olympic-sponsor-clout to use the event to officially launch its IdeaPad U8 mobile Internet device.
The launch means we now have the full specs to go with the video we've already seen. Click on for the juicy details.
Lenovo has announced UK pricing and availability of its new IdeaPad netbooks. And that’s netbooks, plural – Lenovo has added a second model for the UK.
We reported on the IdeaPad S10 yesterday, with its Intel Atom processor, 10.2in LED-backlit screen and 85% full-size keyboard, but it’ll be joined in the UK by the S9 with its 8.9in screen. We’re still waiting for confirmation of both models’ specifications, but we do know that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are standard, as is an ExpressCard slot – something so far unseen on any netbook.
That Lenovo 'netbook' we mentioned last week - it's here! Freshly announced this morning, the IdeaPad S10 is Lenovo's official response to the Eee PC that we hear is selling rather well at the moment.
Like similar rivals, it gets a 10.2in widescreen (LED backlit, no less) and a 1.6GHz Atom processor but also a multitouch trackpad and, most importantly, an 85% full-size QWERTY keyboard that should make typing a more pleasurable experience. Jealous? Click through for more.
We were expecting a raft of laptop updates following the release of Intel's new Centrino 2 . Acer has two new models, Sony has four. Raising the stakes just a tad is Lenovo, with 13 new Centrino 2 releases, including the ThinkPad X200.
The baker's dozen breaks down as four new IdeaPads, a trio of small-to-medium business ThinkPads, called the SL-series, and a further six ThinkPads of the R, T, X and W variety. Full details and a hands-on video of the ThinkPad X200 after the cut.
We're still waiting on a UK release date but we've now got a look at the final specs of Lenovo's baby IdeaPad U110, which has finally appeared on its US site.
Showing over there as shipping in "2-3 weeks", the 11.1in laptop boasts a "unique, etched aluminium-alloy top cover" in fetching red or black. As indicated earlier in the week, it'll sell for $1,899 (around £960).
We've been eyeing it since January, Now Lenovo's aluminium alloy-clad IdeaPad U110 is finally ready to go on sale in the States. The 11in designer laptop will launch tomorrow for $100 less than previously thought, making it $1,899 direct from Lenovo. We should get the full list of specs - including what SSD options will be available - tomorrow. Hopefully a European launch won't be far behind.
If the MacBook Air doesn't grab you, how about Lenovo's latest addition to the new IdeaPad line, the U110? Unveiled at CES in January, it's now finally ready to hit stores in the States. Weighing a smidgen less than the Air, it too spurns any form of DVD drive but does at least have three (count 'em) USB ports and a built-in 6-in-1 card reader to its name. The downside is a smaller, non-LED backlit 11.1in screen.
Lenovo teased everyone with a marketing video of its Ideapad U8 mobile internet device at the Intel Developer Forum last week, and now it’s giving away a bit more. This new video shows the Ideapad’s custom user interface in action. It looks a little sluggish in parts and seems to require a little too much precise fingertip pointing for our liking, but the smooth scrolling UI is undeniably slick. Still no news on the U8's availability though, either in or out of China.
Intel’s developer forum in Shanghai has barely started and its Atom processor hasn’t even officially launched yet, but manufacturers are already wowing the crowds with new ultra-mobile devices. Yesterday it was a bunch of Atom-powered Eee PC competitors, today it’s a new mobile internet device (MID) from Lenovo called the Ideapad U8.
There’s precious little information about the Ideapad U8 available at the moment though, beyond knowing it has an Atom processor, 4.8in touchscreen and Edge/3G support, nor is there any word on availability. You can, however, watch its marketing video after the cut.
