Tokenless network authentication never looked so much fun
By Julian Prokaza on Friday, 14 November 2008

It’s Friday and it’s lunchtime (in the UK), so it’s time for a bit of fun. This ad from Dutch security company Tunix popped up on YouTube the other day and we’d like to say that it cleverly plays upon the new Quantum of Solace Bond film to deliver an important message about tokenless network authentication.

Unfortunately, we can’t – it’s simply one of the most cringingly awful ads we’ve ever seen. So, until it gets nabbed for a cobbled-together TV clip show and analysed in tedious detail by some cretinous slack-jawed micro-celeb, we present Quantum of Authentication for your viewing pleasure.

Oh and there's even a "making of" video, if you were were wondering Tunix managed to reproduce that slick James Bond style so faithfully...

The Pomegranate NS08 - so good, you'll want to move to Nova Scotia
By Julian Prokaza on Wednesday, 12 November 2008

Pomegranate NS08We don’t see too many inventive tech-related ad campaigns these days, so it’s all the more refreshing when something particularly clever turns up. Smartphones seem to inspiring ad agencies at the moment – Samsung tickled out funny bone with its Omnia unboxing video a few months ago, and now there’s the Pomegranate NS08.

The pitch is for a fictional smartphone that does everything, but after you sit through several amusing video clips that extol its voice translation, image projecting, coffee brewing, shaving and harmonica-playing abilities, the truth is revealed. So, while you may not be able to get everything you want in one device, you can get everything you want in one place – Nova Scotia (you mean the folded-out NS08 image didn’t give it away?). Yes, it’s a “Come to Nova Scotia” campaign, but at least it’s a funny one.

Watch some of the videos after the cut.

You've Been Unboxed!
By Julian Prokaza on Tuesday, 16 September 2008

We’re really not convinced about the value of unboxing videos, but lots of people seem to like them, so we’re happy to keep making them. And we must admit to liking a few such videos ourselves, particularly this one that shows an Apple Remote being lovingly extracted from its minimalist packaging by a new owner...

My Documents folder, for real
By Leon Bailey on Sunday, 18 May 2008

Apple may have introduced the novel notion of using a manilla document folder as a case (however impractical) for its MacBook Air ultra-portable, but some bright spark has taken the idea to its logical conclusion. It’s a My Documents folder – a real one. Only laptops, not documents. All a bit confused, really. Still, it looks like fun.

Get tactile feedback on the iPhone with My Touch Keys
By Julian Prokaza on Wednesday, 26 March 2008

If you’re finding the lack of tactile feedback on the Apple iPhone's keyboard a problem, help is at hand (ho ho). My Touch Keys is a transparent screen protector with holes that lie over the part of the screen where the on-screen keyboard appears. The overlay doesn’t interfere with the iPhone’s touch-screen operation, but when the keyboard pops-upeach key then has its own small depressed area that – supposedly – makes it easier to find with a fingertip. There's a video after the cut...

Phone fingers keep your iPhone smudge-free
By Julian Prokaza on Friday, 19 October 2007

Phone Fingers

The Apple iPhone and iPod touch are gorgeous devices, but their glass touch-screens are magnets for grease and grime. If you're too embarrassed to whip yours out in public as a result, try new Phone Fingers -- little latex covers for your fingers that keep greasy marks at bay. Probably a joke, but you know what Apple users are like...
