Not the sort to have a dongle dangling from your netbook? Asus has your back. It's bringing out an Eee PC 901 with built-in HSDPA from next month.

The 7.2Mbps enabled lappie is only listed with Windows XP and also looks like it will only be available from mobile retailers and network providers as features such as Bluetooth and Wireless n are described as "operator dependent".

Otherwise it's the same 901 we know and love with an 8.9in, 1024x600 screen, Intel Atom processor, 1GB RAM and a six-cell battery. We'll keep an eye out for which networks snap this up.

While the legion of no-name Eee pretenders grows larger by the day, few of the mainstream tech giants have been keen to take-on the UMPC leader.

Now though, reports from German site Notebook Journal suggest the imminent arrival of a 9in LG, named the X110.

Seems Taiwan's Digitimes weren't lying when they picked up on the shortage of Intel's new Atom processor. The Register is reporting that a lack of Atoms is now holding up production of the Asus Eee PC 901.

Interestingly, XP versions of the 901 seem to be readily available, while Linux models are all but sold out. Any Microsoft conspiracy theories have been dashed, however - Asus says it makes equal numbers of both versions and the Linux ones sell faster.

The MSI Wind is the netbook a lot of people have been holding on for, since it seems to combine all of the best features of other small, cheap ultraportables – a big screen, large keyboard, to name the two most notable.

Murmurs appearing on Taiwanese site Digitimes are suggesting that Asus is about to launch two new Eee PCs that fuse the current 900 series with the new 1000 (pictured).

By keeping the same 8.9in screen of the 900 but placing it in 10.2in the body of the 1000, Asus hopes to create two inexpensive 8.9in models with more practical, larger keyboards.

The 904 and 905, as they've been dubbed, would get Intel Atom processors, and possibly larger batteries and greater storage.

Oddly, Digitimes sees them as eventually replacing the current 900 and 901 models, which seems a somewhat bizarre move as it would leave Asus without a true 8.9in sized laptop. Happy times for the competition should that happen.

Asus has finally made Windows XP drivers for the Eee PC 901 available online. The drivers can be downloaded from the Asus support web site, thought actually getting to the appropriate page seems a little hit an miss at the moment. The FTP server appears to be fine, though – it’s at ftp.asus.com, and can be accessed anonymously.
