LG's cut-price Cookie brings touchscreens to the masses
By Nick Mansell on Friday, 24 October 2008

LG KP500 CookieIn a launch ranking somewhere below the iPhone and somewhere above the usual pay-as-you-go dross, LG's given the KP500 its official UK announcement.

Dubbed the 'Cookie' it's, "an affordable touchscreen phone", for those who don't feel like shelling out for an iPhone/Bold/5800/Touch Diamond. At £159 with £10 credit on O2 PAYG, it won't break the bank but it still manages a 3in touchscreen, 3mp camera, FM radio and all the usual gubbins. Don't go looking for 3G, Wi-Fi or GPS, though, because they're not there. More details and the press release after the cut.

Blackberry Bold now arriving 16th August
By Nick Mansell on Monday, 11 August 2008

Orange BlackBerry BoldContrary to T-Mobile's claims, the pink network won't be the first to get RIM's new Bold. In fact it'll be Orange that gets in there first with the new BlackBerry landing in just five days' time.

The Inquirer has it direct from the horse's mouth that the Bold will be in Orange's hands by Wednesday and into stores and available on-line on Friday.

It'll be free on £45+ tariffs. As we already know, Carphone Warehouse will also be offering it around the same time. The Inquirer has it offering the Bold for free on £40+ tariffs with unlimited data thrown in but says you'll have to wait till 21st August to get hold of it.

Blackberry Bold lands first on T-Mobile
By Nick Mansell on Friday, 08 August 2008

BlackBerry BoldVodafone and 3 have both made murmurings about the Bold but it T-Mobile is the first network to get the prized BlackBerry.

It's named September as the month to go BlackBerry picking - beating off Vodafone who are committed to securing it "before November" and 3 who can only say it'll be available before the end of the year.

Business customers will be the first to get their hands on the HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS and 2MP camera loaded handset and its lush 480 x 320 screen. There's only 1GB of storage on-board but there is that all important SD-card slot for boosting capacity by 8GB and beyond. More details after the cut.

Fresh iPhone 3G stock at Carphone Warehouse
By Nick Mansell on Thursday, 24 July 2008

iPhone 3G stock arrives at Carphone WarehouseAfter the panic of launch day, fresh iPhone 3G stock is starting to arrive. O2 says its stores have 'limited' supplies but the good news is that pallet loads of the Apple handsets have arrived at Carphone Warehouse's, er, warehouse.

They'll be going out to stores today, with 800 of its shops expecting a delivery by 2pm. It'll be its largest delivery since the phones went on sale on 11th July so get in quick if you want one.

Alternatively CW is accepting orders via its website - if you trust that following O2's online launch-week woes.

3 days = 1 million iPhone 3Gs
By Nick Mansell on Monday, 14 July 2008

iPhone 3GEnding much speculation about sales projections, Apple has announced it's already sold one million new iPhone 3G around the world. The million mark was reached yesterday after just three days.

That's exactly 71 days less than it took to sell a million of the original iPhones. Sales have been boosted by the simultaneous worldwide release, which say iPhone 3G go on sale in 21 countries, rather than just the one.

Carphone Warehouse has at least 40 iPhone 3Gs in stock...
By Julian Prokaza on Thursday, 10 July 2008

Carphone Warehouse iPhone 3G stockOK, we admit it, even we’re getting a little excited by the stream of iPhone 3G news that’s breaking today. Following the launch of the iPhone 3G-ready iTunes 7.7 and the iTunes App Store earlier today, the latest is a photo from Carphone Warehouse showing some iPhone 3G stock being delivered. Not the biggest news of the day, but still a little bit exciting, no?

We’ll be charitable and assume that a) that isn’t Carphone Warehouse’s only stock allocation and b) there are more than 40 iPhone 3G boxes on that pallet…

8GB iPhone is a Carphone Warehouse sell out - no more stock in sight
By Nick Mansell on Friday, 25 April 2008

Carephone Warehouse iPhone out of stockWe'd been hearing that sales were brisk of the cut price 8GB iPhone following last week's £100 price slash but now it seems the handset could actually be selling out sooner than some had expected. Carphone Warehouse's website lists the phone as 'out of stock' but more telling is an email sent to members of the affiliate network, Tradedoubler.

Carphone Warehouse found misleading some iPhone customers
By Julian Prokaza on Thursday, 29 November 2007

Carphone Warehouse has been found misleading some iPhone customers over the sale of handset insurance. A BBC Watchdog investigation was started after a consumer complained that he had been told that, if he lost his iPhone and did not take out an insurance policy, he would have to pay off the original iPhone contract, plus a new contract for the replacement handset.

This is incorrect - although a new handset would need to be purchased, the original contract would still stand. Watchdog investigators visited five London stores, and in three of them, they were told the same story. The company says these were “isolated incidents.” Carphone Warehouse staff receive a commission on insurance policy sales.

Was the UK iPhone launch a flop?
By Julian Prokaza on Monday, 12 November 2007

Apple Store @ iPhone launchThere's an interesting story over at The Register about the non-event that was the launch of the UK iPhone. A queue did form outside the Apple Store on Regent Street, but it was pretty much business as usual at other iPhone outlets (Carphone Warehouse and O2) around the country – just a handful of customers, in other words.

By Julian Prokaza on Tuesday, 06 November 2007

Apple iPhoneWith just a few days to go before the iPhone goes on sale in the UK, Apple has revealed what the 'event' will entail.
