Vista - not as bad as you think it is
By Nick Mansell on Monday, 28 July 2008

Read more... Ok, so the 'wow' didn't exactly happen in quite the way Microsoft hoped but are we all being a little too harsh on Windows Vista?

Microsoft certainly thinks so. It's set out to prove that, if we just gave Vista a chance, we'd all be ditching XP and Windows 2000 quicker than you can say 'blue screen of death'.

Asus Eee PC 904
By Julian Prokaza on Monday, 28 July 2008

Read more...Well, this is it – the last Eee PC-branded ultra-portable that Asus will be launching. Well, for the time being, at least. As with the Eee PC 1000, the Eee PC 904 isn’t really anything new – it’s just a repackaging of existing components intended to fill what Asus perceives as a gap in its line-up.

We’re less convinced of the need for what is essentially an Eee PC 900 in an Eee PC 1000 shell (which is itself just a scaled-up Eee PC 901), but that’s only because better netbooks than this are available from other manufacturers – and Asus is hardly likely to worry about that.

By Nick Mansell on Monday, 28 July 2008

New Nokia Tube / 5800 XpressMusic photos leaked
By Leon Bailey on Monday, 28 July 2008

Read more...The ever-reliable Boy Genius Report has posted a series of shots of Nokia’s would-be iPhone toppler, the Tube – and boy, they’re not too pretty.

We’ve hoisted one of BGR’s pictures here, just for illustration’s sake, but for the full set, follow the link after the cut (though frankly, if you do you’ll likely wish you didn’t). Perhaps more interesting is the list of specs posted alongside the Boy’s collection of grubby Nokia Tube photos. More after the jump.

iPhone open to iPhishing
By Nick Mansell on Monday, 28 July 2008

Read more...You knew there'd be some teething problems with that shiny new iPhone didn't you? Sure enough, security researcher, Aviv Raff, has spotted a few issues with iPhone Mail and Safari (that's the browser Apple is always boasting is safer than Internet Explorer).

The problem comes when emails containing spoofed URLs are opened from Mail. The resultant page opens in Safari, still showing its spoofed web address. As Aviv puts it: "The spoofed URL, shown in the address bar of the Safari browser, will still be viewed by the victim as if it is from a trusted domain."

HP swallows Voodoo gaming division
By Nick Mansell on Friday, 25 July 2008

Read more...Despite being taken over by HP some time ago, gaming PC specialist Voodoo has managed to remain a company within a company under the HP umbrella.

Now, though, it’s being merged completely with HP's core consumer business, making the Voodoo name more akin to a brand like Dell's XPS than an entity in its own right.

Toshiba unveils prototype UMPC
By Nick Mansell on Friday, 25 July 2008

Read more...Toshiba's come up with its own mini PC, more reminiscent of Samsung's ill-fated Q1 than Asus's high-flying Eee.

The miniature MID – or Mobile Internet Device – has a 5.6in screen, GPS, a 64GB SSD and touts an Intel Atom processor. Eagles eyed observers will also notice the lack of any keyboard – that's caused a few issues with typing, with users noting that the touch screen keyboard consumes two thirds of the display when in use.

Is the iPhone 3G about to turn Orange?
By Nick Mansell on Friday, 25 July 2008

Read more...There's been nothing official on this but two separate but interesting stories are pointing to the fact that O2 might not have the iPhone 3G as an exclusive for much longer.

Firstly the online mobile store Omio is reporting on its blog that they, "have word from a very, very credible source on the inside that the iPhone 3G will be available on Orange in the UK, possibly as soon as October."

Nokia E71
By Julian Prokaza on Friday, 25 July 2008

Read more...Although the Microsoft Exchange support that’s part of Apple's new 2.0 firmware now makes the iPhone and iPhone 3G a more plausible choice for business users looking for a sleek and shiny smartphone, the lack of a keyboard is still a deterrent for some savvy users. One alternative obvioulsy lies with Windows Mobile handsets, but now Nokia has another.

Wafer-thin and clad sleek stainless steel, the E71 looks every bit as stylish as Apple’s latest effort and while it may not have the same large, lush touch-screen, it does have that vital business smartphone ingredient – a keyboard.

Hands-on with the Asus Eee PC 904
By Julian Prokaza on Friday, 25 July 2008

Read more...Asus has delivered what it says will be its last Eee PC portable for a while (other Eee-branded products are on the way, though) – the Eee PC 904. Essentially an Eee PC 900 in the Eee PC 1000's body, the idea is that it offers a large, comfortable keyboard at a commendably low price. We'll publish our review shortly, but in the meantime, here's a short video that shows the Eee PC 904 alongside the 1000.
