If you're patiently waiting for RIM's next generation BlackBerries, then we have good news. The Canadian firm is apparently all set to launch the first of its new crop, the BlackBerry 9000, this Monday.
The Boy Genius Report
has it on good authority that it'll be unveiled on the first day of
this year's Wireless Enterprises Symposium, dubbed the "biggest
BlackBerry event of the year", in Orlando - including working models
for those lucky enough to be there.
MSI's Wind has finally gone on pre-order, ready for its eventual launch, and with it we now have the final spec and pricing. Available in black, white and pink, the 10in version will cost £319.95 with Linux or £349.95 with XP Home.
Details on Expansys's website show it'll have the 1.6GHz version of the promised Atom processor, combined with a generous 80GB hard drive, 1GB RAM, built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and a 1.3mp webcam.
Expansys hasn't given an actual shipping date but everything looks set for the planned June release.
Pics of Dell's new Inspiron line up have turned up on the web, courtesy of Engadget. The 14in 1435, 15in 1535 and 17in 1735 look set to replace the current 1420, 1525 and 1720.
Just what we never knew we always needed - a giant condom for our laptop. These see-through bags completely envelop your laptop making it instantly splashproof. Available in A4 and B5 sizes for differently endowed models, they'll repel anything from raindrops to coffee spillages.
The maker does say they're not entirely waterproof - so no checking
your email underwater - and rather worryingly states it won't be held
responsible for, "over heating if kept in the protective bag for to
[sic] long."
Hmm. Not sure we'd trust our famously thermo-nuclear office laptops with these. $19.94 from GeekStuff4U.com, if you're still tempted...
The Toshiba production line rumbles on, this time serving up the new 13.3in Portégé M800. Weighing in at just under 2kg it gets a 'white pearl' finish with silver trimmings and added white LEDs.
Inside lies a 2GHz Core 2 Duo T5750, 1GB RAM, 250GB hard drive, DVD burner and three USB ports. The display is a WXGA 1280x800 panel with on-board Intel GMA X3100 graphics and it runs Vista Home Premium.
It's slated to land in Europe sometime between July and September but there's no details yet on pricing.
A message on the Rock Computers news site states that the laptop manufacturer has entered into administration. It goes on to say that the administrators are working closely with the management of Rock to attempt to secure a sale of the business as a going concern, but that it is unable to maintain normal trading activities during this interim period – including fulfilling sales orders and undertaking service and warranty work.
A bizarre message on the O2 website states "8GB and 16GB iPhone - iPhone no longer available". Cue a slew of rumours that O2 had cleared the decks for the 3G iPhone's imminent arrival.
Not so says O2. It's come out this afternoon saying that 16GB iPhones are only temporarily out of stock and that fresh supplies are on the, way while stock of the 8GB iPhone is "under review". It's also pointed out that there's still handsets available in O2 stores.
Still, there are plenty of other 3G iPhone news bits about. AT&T has apparently cancelled leave for its US retail staff from 15th June - pointing to an imminent US launch - while Apple itself has been posting adverts for "Field Validation Engineers" in Europe and Australia. High up on the skills requirements: 'experience with UMTS and 3G'...
These are Dell's Special Edition Inspiron 1525 laptops. The designer notebooks carry the artwork of Brooklyn-based artist, Mike Ming. He says he: “wanted to create a sense of energy, playfulness, sophistication and psychedelic momentum," with his scribblings. Our thoughts exactly.
The special editions are the first in a series of designer Dells, which vice president of Consumer Experience Design, Ed Boyd, says is a trend he's, "excited to see continue."
The Ming Inspirons can be had from a surprisingly modest $699 - a $100 premium on a standard 1525. Dell hasn't said whether they'll be arriving here or whether any UK artists will get a look-in. A Damien Hirst Vostro perhaps?
This is, according to Samsung, the world's slimmest smartphone and, at 11.8mm, who are we to argue? Despite its diminutive size, it manages to pack Windows Mobile 6.1 and HSDPA into its candybar frame. There's also a cunning light sensor to adjust the backlight according to the conditions, eeking out the standby time to a hearty 15 days.
The QVGA screen stretches to 2.3in. A 2mp camera and a microSD slot have also been squeezed in, which is just as well because there's only 25MB on-board for the media player to take advantage of.
It'll be out this month as an Orange and Carphone Warehouse exclusive. Pricing is TBA.
You could always wait till you get home but if your just have to have prints while out and about, Canon's new Selphy CP770 may be just the ticket. Launched alongside the cheaper but deskboud CP760, it is, to put it bluntly, a photo-lab-quality printer in a bucket.
