Seesmic Twitter app now available for BlackBerry and Android

By Julian Prokaza on Mon 23 November 2009

Seesmic Desktop is our desktop Twitter client of choice (despite its reliance on Adobe Air), so we’re pleased to see that a version of the app is now available for BlackBerry and Android smartphones.

BlackBerry smartphones have been poorly served by Twitter apps so far, so it’s encouraging to see Seesmic taking the platform seriously. Seesmic for BlackBerry doesn’t support the same multi-column timeline view as the desktop app, but it does automatically synchronise Twitter lists and saved searches.

It also supports URL shortening and photo sharing, and most importantly for a hard-core messaging tool like the BlackBerry, background notification of @ replies and direct messages. Seesmic for Android app offers these same set of core features, but adds video and location sharing.

Seesmic for BlackBerry is a free download from www.seesmic.com using your BlackBerry browser, while Seesmic for Android is a free download from Android Market.

Here’s a video of Seesmic CEO Loic Le Meur introducing the new apps:

Incidentally, don't forget that you can follow Mobile Computer on Twitter at @mobcomp.
