Android-powered Archos 5 Internet Tablet available in September

Archos clearly isn’t interested in learning what Apple thinks about a tablet computer — it’s just launched one of its own. The Archos 5 Internet Tablet runs the Google Android operating system and has a 4.8in capacitive touch-screen with an 800 x 480 resolution, which is not quite an inch bigger than the screen on the iPhone.
More details and photos after the cut.
Archos has long dabbled in tablet devices and the Archos 5 Internet Tablet is essentially an improved version of the old Archos 5 tablet that runs Android instead of Linux (and yes, we know Android is Linux too).
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS are built-in and storage comes from either an internal flash (6Gb to 32Gb) or hard disk (160Gb to 500Gb) drive. There’s also an FM receiver and transmitter, which means you can listen to music over a car stereo without trailing wires over the dashboard.
As you might expect for a company that specialises in handheld media players, the Archos 5 Internet Tablet has excellent audio and video support (Ogg Vorbis!). It can also record video from an external source via the optional DVR Snap-on.
The spec sheet states that the lithium polymer battery is good for 22 hours of music playback and 7 hours of video, and the whole thing weighs in at 182g or the flash drive model. Prices start from £200 and the Archos 5 Internet Tablet will be available later in September.
In the meantime, you can watch a hands-on video over at V3.
