MemoryUp taking Android phones down?

By Leon Bailey on Mon 26 January 2009

If the crowd wisdom of Android App Market users is to be believed then an application called MemoryUp is a "scam" responsible for all manner of handst hiccups and related heartache.

According to a report on Geek.com, MemoryUp has been snatched between 10,000 and 50,000 times but the reviews from downloaders have been overwhelming negative verging on damning. More after the cut.

The MemoryUp product description reads as follows:

MemoryUp is a handy memory optimizer tool that will keep your Android smartphone running faster and efficiently. It is the lite edition of MemoryUp Professional, which can extraordinarily increase you cell phone performance by making more memory available for both you applications and the mobile system.

However, Geek.com posts quotes from various App Market denizens who, far from finding their handsets running faster and more efficiently, have apparently suffered the consequences of installing MemoryUp. A poster using the handle 'kr33p1n' is quoted as saying "Doesn’t work at all erased my phone numbers and froze my phone.". Another – 'Mark' – says "Do not download. Destroyed my memory card/system delete. Then my email was spammed. TMobile can’t stop you from downloading this! So don’t!"

If you’re an Android user, we reckon you’d be as wise to go read the full story over at Geek.com – link below.
