Apple names top iPhone apps of 2008

App Store UK top ten

Cue the Top of The Pops theme tune. Apple's been totting up the downloads and compiled the first year-end top ten of UK iPhone/iPod Touch App Store hits. And rather than spare you the pain of a countdown we'll tell you that in at number one is Koi Pond for the paid apps and iPint for the freebies.

For those non-app-store-addicts amongst us, Koi Pond is a virtual, er, Koi Pond (seriously) for your trusty iPhone and iPod Touch, complete with movable lilly pads and touch ripple effect. iPint is a Carling viral that turns Apple's finest into a trusty virtual pint, complete with tilt and drink effect. Does this say something about us Brits?

All that App Store goodness and still Apple has yet to allow users to use iTunes prepaid cards to pay for it.

Consumers are nervous enough about using their credit cards over the net - I can't imagine them being thrilled at exposing their credit info over some £1 App.

But as Jobs as shown, he's awfully fond of PT Barnum's famous quote - and knows his own fan base...
