New N-Series Nokias - N85 and N79

By Nick Mansell on Tue 26 August 2008

Nokia N85Nokia's N-Series ranks are swelling with the addition of two new recruits. The gaming-savvy N85 and candybar all-rounder N79.

The N85 takes over from the N81 with improvements to the display in the form of a 2.6in OLED screen. Like the N95, it's a two-way slider, but uses its dual slide abilities to pack in a set of gaming buttons for Nokia's N-Gage system, rather than music controls. As an added bonus the bundled 8GB microSD comes pre-loaded with ten demo games to kick off with - and a voucher to unlock one full one.

HSDPA, Wi-Fi, an FM transmitter and GPS are all in there as well, together with a 5mp camera.

Nokia N79Picking up where the N78 left off, the N79 gets its predecessor's innovative FM transmitter for in-car music playback along with its HSDPA, Wi-Fi and GPS combo. In addition it boosts the N78's camera from 3.2mp to a full 5mp, bundles a larger 4GB microSD and gets swappable covers (remember them?)

It will cost a neat €350 when it launches in October, which should translate to around £325 sim-free once you add the VAT.

The N85 will be €450 when it launches around the same time. That comes out around £420 sim-free with VAT.
