The 'Asus Eee PC killer' - from Asus

By Nick Mansell on Fri 22 August 2008

Asus N10Not content with churning out endless numbers of Eee PC variants, Asus has now come up with a second UMPC brand - the Asus N-Series.

Freshly leaked images show the 10.2in model, the N10, looking very much like a madeover Eee, and also sporting Altec Lansing speakers and an HDMI port, suggesting a multimedia-friendly hardware boost. More details and pictures after the jump.

The more observant will spot a fingerprint reader between the mouse buttons - further evidence that this is aimed at a more demanding customer.

Inside there's the usual Intel Atom plus up to a 320GB hard drive and, interestingly, Windows Vista.

Rumoured pricing is around $500 to $640 - not bad for the spec.

Is it me, or is that kind of a big computer for being a netbook. I mean the 10.2 inch screen looks like it's fitted into a 13 inch length casing which would put it in the ballpark of a mainstream laptop.

I can't be sure of course, but I think they mean with 10.2 inch model, that the actual model is 10.2 in diameter. That would probably keep it close to the original Eee.Wouldn't make much sense if this model is much bigger than the old Eee.
