Dell extends warranties for Nvidia troubles

By Nick Mansell on Tue 19 August 2008

Dell XPS M1330Dell's chief blogger, Lionel Menchaca, has announced that the company will be extending the warranties on all its laptops affected by well-documented problems with overheating Nvidia chipsets.

The posts states: "Dell will offer a 12-month limited warranty enhancement specific to this issue. For all customers worldwide, we plan to add 12 months of coverage for this issue to the existing limited warranty up to 60 months from the date of purchase."

The word 'limited' is the one to watch. Angry users are already pointing out that the overheating of the GPU is liable to affect other component not covered by the warranty extension. Dell does say full details will be available in the next few weeks so we'll wait for the fine print.
