3G iPhone for just £100?
By Leon Bailey on Thu 05 June 2008
If a report published today by Macworld is to be believed then Apple will launch the 3G iPhone in the UK with a price tag of £100, on an 18-month contract with O2.
We’re not fans of spreading rumours but Macworld is usually a pretty reliable source, though we can’t of course vouch for Macworld’s (unnamed) source.
The same report also claims that to have heard told tales of O2 wanting to extend the available purchase options to embrace free-handset deals and even pay-as-you-go (PAYG) packages.
Sensibly, such titbits of gossip should be taken with the usual large pinch of salt but with the 3G iPhone now expected to be just days away (the 9th June launch date itself being little more than informed guesswork), it’s understandable that people are keen to read and share information.
So, with that in mind, Macworld’s story goes on to say that the 3G iPhone will become a freebie to those who sign up to O2’s costliest tariff (currently £75/month for 3,000 minutes of talktime and 500 texts).
Existing iPhone owners, meanwhile, will be given the opportunity to upgrade to the 3G model free of charge if they commit to a renewed 18-month contract, the Macworld report concludes.
