Is the 3G iPhone screenshot fake claim also fake?
By Julian Prokaza on Fri 23 May 2008
Cor, this is turning into the plot of a John Le Carré novel. It appears that yesterday's claim that the screenshot showing the 3G option in the iPhone 2.0 beta firmware was a fake, was itself a fake designed to throw Apple off the scent. Er, or something like that. Control Arn from MacRumours emailed us to explain...
The screenshot is not fake. iSmashPhone got the story wrong. Here's what happened:
1. 3G screenshot posted by an 'unofficial developer'.
2. It gets a lot of press.
3. 'Unofficial developer'. gets accepted into iPhone Dev program.
4. He posts in a ‘wink-wink’ disclaimer later: ‘Oh, that wasn't a real screenshot, I just Photoshopped it and it was a big coincidence’ so he doesn't get in trouble from Apple for posting it in the first place
5. A site that can't read between the lines posted it as truth. The screenshot is legit.

Arn also sent a a YouTube link that supposedly shows how the 3G option works on a jailbroken iPhone, but the video isn’t working for us. We've posted it anyway, in case it springs into life at some point.
Thanks Arn!
