Newton Peripherals MoGo Dapter
By Julian Prokaza on Tuesday, 29 April 2008

MoGo Dapter USB Bluetooth adapterAdding Bluetooth to a laptop that lacks it is simply a matter of plugging a USB Bluetooth adapter in an available port. An adapter that will stick a couple of inches out of the side of the case, probably get knocked out at inopportune moments and possibly even lost if you’re careless with your ‘laptopping’. Not so the MoGo Dapter. This USB Bluetooth adapter is barely bigger that the USB plug it sits on the end of, so you can leave it permanently plugged in without fear of it falling out.

Newton Peripherals reckons that the MoGo Dapter is the world's smallest Bluetooth adapter and we certainly see no reason to doubt it. When plugged into a laptop, the semi-circular business end of the MoGo Dapter sticks out of a USB port by a mere 17mm and at 2.6g (not 39g, as stated on the product data sheet!) , adds almost nothing to its weight. It supports Bluetooth 2.0 EDR and up to seven simultaneous connections.

With Windows XP and Vista, getting it up and running is just a case of plugging it in and installing the drivers from the supplied 8cm CD (which isn’t much use to laptops with slot-loading drives).

The BlueSoleil Bluetooth application offers the usual array of connection options, plus a nifty graphical display of nearby Bluetooth devices. Range is easily up to Newton Peripherals’ claimed 30 feet, too. Well worth the price if you need Bluetooth on a laptop.
