MSI first showed its take on the low-cost ultra-portable at last year’s CeBIT and precious few details have been released since then. Thanks to a press release from MSI though, we can now confirm that MSI will launch the Wind in the UK in June.
The MSI Wind will be available in both 8.9in and 10in (1024 x 600) screen variants, though the 10in model will most likely be available first to differentiate it from the Eee PC 900. There'll be a choice of Windows XP or Linux from launch, too.
MSI has yet to confirmed wich processor will power the Wind, but it has stated that it will be "one that hasn't been launched yet". So, that'll be the Intel Atom then.
“Seven hours” is also being bandied about for battery life, though we’ll only believe that when we see it – the Eee PC 900 can only manage three and a half hours, and we’ve yet to put the HP Mini-Note 2133 through its paces.
Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but the models will fall in the £200 to £300 range (including VAT), depending on the specification. There'll be a choice of colours, too.
We're hoping to get our hands on a pre-production sample of the MSI Wind next week, so keep your eyes peeled for an early review.
