Ever felt like hurling your mobile from the car window in frustration? We may have the perfect phone for you. A new screenless, disposable handset is coming to Europe after an un-named distributor put down an order for 10,000 of the $20 (£10) talkpieces at the CTIA show in Las Vegas.
The chuckaple cellphone comes courtesy of Hop-on, maker of such gems as the ChitterChatter KidsPhone. It's already had some success in the US as the CDMA Hop1900. Hop-on reports that the first batches placed in convenience stores sold out in hours to curious shoppers impressed by the novelty of a working phone that could be binned after use.
It does have stiff competition here, though, from Motorola's surprisingly stylish, MOTOFONE F3, which also has a screen - albeit an extremely basic monochrome one. It can be had for a mere £4.95 plus a £10 top-up on Virgin Mobile or a flat £9.99 on Orange PAYG, placing it in exactly the same price bracket.
And, in case you were wondering, The Hop1900 isn't the world's first disposable phone. Back in 1999, American inventor, Randice-Lisa Altschul, patented and eventually made a throw-away mobile with the thickness of just three credit cards . Unfortunately that little adventure ended in bankruptcy and failure. Hop-on, take note.
