Intel reveals Moorestown - possibly the smallest PC motherboard in the world
By Julian Prokaza on Thu 03 April 2008
Centrino Atom is only one part of Intel’s mobile platform roadmap for the next few years and while the new line up of Atom processors are understandably getting all the attention at the moment, even bigger things are due for 2009. That’s when the Moorestown platform is scheduled to launch. Moorestown is even more frugal than Atom and judging by the sneak peek Intel gave at the IDF earlier today, it’s a dramatically smaller package, too. Watch the brief video clip after the cut.
Anand Chandrasekher, Senior Vice President General Manager of Intel’s Ultra Mobility Group, whipped out an early Moorestown motherboard at one of his IDF presentations today. The motherboard is just a few inches square, yet when the electronics are in place (this was literally just the circuit board), it will contain the processor, memory, chipset, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. In other words, if Intel delivers on its promise, Moorestown will finally herald the true age of the pocket PC.
