Opera Mobile 9.5 puts a desktop web browser in your hand
By Julian Prokaza on Tue 05 February 2008
Opera will unveil its newOpera Mobile 9.5 browser for smartphones at next week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The browser, which will be available for Symbian, Windows Mobile and Linux-powered devices, has a whole host of features that are a first for handhelds and, Opera claims, is some two and a half times faster than Pocket IE at rendering pages.
More info, images and a demo video after the cut.
Opera Mobile 9.5 now has a full-page overview mode that can be zoomed and dragged around, much like the iPhone's Safari browser. It can also render pages created using Javascript and Ajax, and has tabbed browsing, offline web page access, the ability to send web links and images via SMS/MMS and a password manager for the secure storage of website login credentials.
There’s no word on availability yet – the browser is simply being demonstrated on a variety of handsets at Mobile World Congress – but the public beta will open in the Spring.
