Free SlingPlayer 2.0 update adds PVR features to SlingBox
By Julian Prokaza on Tuesday, 08 January 2008

SlingPlayer 2.0

SlingBox owners will soon be able to upgrade to SlingPlayer 2.0. New in version 2 is ‘Clip+Sling', which lets SlingBox owners capture video clips of programmes and share them online with other SlingBox owners at the forthcoming Sling.com site.

Perhaps more useful is the 60-minute buffer that adds PVR-like pause and rewind features to video playback, and the new EPG means that you won't need to wrestle with the Sky+ programme guide on your laptop when you're looking for something to watch.

SlingPlayer 2.0 will be available as a free download in the next few weeks.

SlingCatcherIf you want to do more than just stream video from your living room home entertainment set-up to a remote computer over a network or the internet, but its new Sling Media's new SlingCatcher might be of interest.

Publicly demonstrated at CES for the first time yesterday, SlingCatcher connects to a TV and can receive content from a connected USB storage device, remote SlingBox or a PC running the SlingProjector software. SlingProjector also allows content from streaming video sites like YouTube to be displayed on a TV.

SlingCatcher will be available in the UK later this year, the price to be confirmed.
