First impression of the Eee PC - Aargh!
By Julian Prokaza on Thu 01 November 2007
I've spent the afternoon writing a review of the Eee PC and like all laptop reviews we write, I've been doing it on the device itself. So far, so good -- the small keyboard is surprsingly comfortable and I could easily see myself using one as my laptop for itinerant working.
However, I took leave of my senses and saved my work on the internal drive rather than on a removeable disk. Two reboots to test startup time later (40 seconds!) and the Eee PC is dead -- the (power and Wi-Fi) lights are on, but no one's at home.
Since it's not even getting as far as the POST screen, it seems like something fundamental has failed -- and it's taken my review with it. The SSD is hard-wired to the motherboard, so I can't even plug the drive into something else -- lesson learned, eh?
So, you'll have to wait a little longer for the Eee PC review -- Asus is trying to sort out a replacement ASAP and I'm trying to remember what I wrote in the meantime. Grr.
